Return is not the same as profit
An accessible reference for casino terms, written for readers who prefer an explanation to an assumption.
Write the amounts separately
Imagine an educational example with a £10 stake and an advertised settlement of £18 including that original stake. The net profit is £8. If the words 'win' and 'return' are used interchangeably, the same example can appear to describe two different amounts. A clear glossary asks what each figure includes before trying to compare it.
Change the scale carefully
Return to player, or RTP, is a different kind of figure. The Gambling Commission explains it as an average over a significant number of plays, rather than a promise for each play. House edge describes the casino's expected share under the relevant game's conditions. Neither term specifies what one person's next session will return.
Make every definition usable
A strong definition includes the unit, the time or repetition scale, and one example. Label invented amounts as illustrations. If a game uses credits, establish their stated value before translating them into pounds. Small wording choices prevent large misunderstandings.
